Can't remember the last time we had a May Victoria day long weekend in Canada with this great weather, but I'm not complaining. Perfect time for an iced cappuccino post! My sister's favourite drink. For the drink part of the cake, I just roughly covered the fondant with cappucino buttercream (trying to add in some coffee grinds for the look). Of course the flavour was
Cake Au Lait.
The xbox cake was made for a gamer, and no the cover of the game is not edible unfortunately (some things I just have to let go). However it IS the birthday boy Chris' face you see on the top middle frame. It can be useful being a graphic designer. And yes I am aware that the red circle around the power button means it failed, that was trying to add my sense of humour to it. You can't play cake.
Have a great long weekend! xo.
One of my excuses for taking such a long break from blogging in April is the crazy amount of birthday's I had. How many Aries are there out there, really. This is one cake I had so much fun with. Matthew, birthday boy, is on a serious health kick lately. The kind where you don't eat cake except for yours and maybe baby Jesus' birthday. This is the one chance I had to make him really good cake since it's the only cake he'll have all year (hm, so he says). Naturally you and I both know cake should be eaten anytime it's in front of your face. Considering all this, I thought it would be humourous to make him a broccoli cake.
I used the normal point tip #2 or #3 in fast circular motions to make the broccoli head shown in more detail below,
#2B tip would probably work too.
Sculpting a cake is both fun but also terrifying to see it in the beginning steps - will it look right? Will it be proportioned?
The broccoli cake was a strange one, it started off looking like a mushroom from
Super Mario Brothers.
Let them eat broccoli! (cake)
My good friend Kelly finished her yoga teacher training and I wanted to congratulate her. This cake right here is proof that I don't just work with fondant!
I wanted to do something pretty for the look of the buttercream and it came to me instantly, at this moment I grabbed a…
It's simple, turn the cake around a drag your fork at the edge. Helps if you have a turntable or lazy suzan.
For the flower I tried to create a lotus (key word: tried) out of gumpaste. It is an intricate flower. Probably would have worked better if I made it in white gumpaste and then painted it with food coloring. Couldn't decide on putting it on the top or side. What do you think looks better?
Have a good weekend.
It's been awhile since my last post! Did you miss me? I missed you. In all this time away I've baked a lot and designed a lot. This means I have a lot of material to post, and I'm excited to share them with you. Let's start with this baseball jersey cake for a 27th birthday...
ps.
I haven't exactly called it quits with my
contest a day challenge, but I have to mention that it has been over 6 months of not winning anything. Maybe the big prize is on its way? Who knows, but I will try to keep this going by posting 7 contests every monday. We'll see. I am a positive one.
